I've been thinking about the pioneers

We spent a weekend in Nauvoo which included a few and far between temple trip for Austin and I. I feel an intense eternal perspective when I ponder the sacrifices of the early saints. Austin will tell you that whenever I have a deep query, a shift in perspective, or something I feel is profound to speak about I usually begin the conversation with, "So, I've been thinking about the pioneers..." We had a great time with our friends the Spackmans and the Brandons learning and touring as much as possible (which isn't much) over our two day stay as we juggled toddlers and babies. It was fun. The pioneers had toddlers and babies to juggle too except they weren't just getting demos from the missionaries, they were actually making ropes, wagon wheels, bricks, tinware, food, and pretty much an entire city. Oh how I love their legacy!

Our second attempt at gardening

If you live in Wisconsin and you completely neglect your garden for two and a half weeks, no weeding or watering, this is what happens! The zucchinis begin to walk and talk and rule the universe!

Here is our garden. Epic does a drawing to decide who gets to use some of it's land to plant a garden. We share a garden with another family in the ward. Look! It grew! (It's grown much more since these pictures were taken)

Stitches.......again?

Chase just had his second set of stitches. I was pretty sure they were going to send child services after us but I hear they usually wait until the third ER visit so we'll just cross our fingers. He likes to get dizzy and walk around so Austin spun him around in a chair and then when he was done he fell into the corner of the bottom of the desk.

While we are sharing battle scars, here's a picture from when Chase and I biffed it on the bike.

....and here are pictures from his first set of six stitches, two of which had fallen out when this picture was taken (hand smashed in the gym door at church after a Saturday night Volleyball game.)

Basketball!
Chase is absolutely obsessed with basketballs and basketball hoops. Neither Austin or I share his passion for the sport but since he spent all weekend wandering the house asking for a 'hoop' we decided he needed a practice court. Here are some fun pictures. The video of him playing is sort of long and will probably be enjoyed most by grandparents :)!

The first few months after Chase's arrival were filled with family visits. Living in Wisconsin gave us lots of trial by error learning experiences as we adjusted into parenthood one step at a time. I look at how much Chase has grown and often wonder.... who has grown more Chase... or Austin and me...?

Today in the bath Chase talked for about 5 straight minutes. His babbling is usually just babble but it is amazing to watch his mind grow and expand as he tries to communicate.
